Baby Products to Bring to the Hospital When Having a Baby

After your little one’s long-awaited arrival, she’ll quickly acquire her own gear faster than you can change her diaper.

Here’s what you should plan on having on hand before you sign those discharge papers:

A going-home outfit: A one-piece outfit is ideal, enabling easy diaper changes and keeping her feet covered. Be sure to bring a hat in case the weather is cool.

An infant car seat: Hospitals won’t let you leave without one, so make sure the base and seat are properly installed. If possible, practice buckling and unbuckling with a baby doll in advance to ensure a safe ride home.

A receiving blanket or baby foot muff: If it’s wintertime or unusually chilly, the extra protection will provide much-needed warmth.

A pacifier with clip: If you anticipate a cranky car ride home, it may just be a lifesaver.

Diaper bag: Because some hospitals generously send you home with wipes, diapers and diaper rash cream samples, it’s a great excuse to stock your bag.
